Mary Jo Matsumoto is an American artist based in California whose paintings, drawings, and sculptures touch on the in-between spaces of the Asian diaspora and speak to the human need to feel included. Influenced by mythology, folklore, and American pop culture, she is also concerned with the environment that affects us all. Matsumoto’s work examines and questions traditional art history narratives to connect the past and present and explores the complexity of untold stories and contemporary identities.
