Media Bio

Mary Jo Matsumoto’s oil paintings, drawings and bronze, and ceramic sculptures draw on her own life experiences as well as broader themes of family dynamics, feminism and stepping into the power of the true self.  Her influences include psychology, mythology, mysticism, and world religions.

Mary Jo Matsumoto was born in Fort Benning, Georgia. She received her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and an M.F.A. from New York University. After working as a fashion designer for 14 years with designs in over 300 stores worldwide, she went on to study painting, drawing, and sculpture at the Art Student’s League of New York and spent a year at Angel Academy of Fine Art in Florence, Italy.

Currently, Mary Jo lives in New York City, where she continues to paint, sculpt and accept commissions.

The Mary Jo Matsumoto line has been sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Takashimaya, Henri Bendel, The Four Seasons, The Ritz Carleton, The Rockefeller Hotel Group, San Ysidro Ranch, Miraval Spa, Bacara Resort, The Golden Door, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, and many other fine boutiques and resorts worldwide. Mary Jo Matsumoto fine jewelry is currently available through her Los Angeles showroom.

Writing/Journalism/Social Media 

Mary Jo Matsumoto is the editor and co-author of the book, Journey to the Inner Child. The process of writing this book facilitated her move into the visual arts. Mary Jo was the editor of for over a decade. TrustYourStyle's content was available for feeds that included The New York Times, CNN and  She was also the Beauty/Fashion editor at Affluent Magazine for over six years. A former Fashion/Beauty editor at, Mary Jo has written columns for Diet & Fitness Magazine and was interviewed for her fashion and beauty expertise by publications such as U.S. News & World Reports, Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan Style, Women's Health, Women's World, The National Examiner, First For Women and other newspapers around the world.

She has worked since 2005 as a social media consultant in the beauty, fashion and lifestyle sectors for luxury brands and Fortune 500 companies such as Dove and Aveeno.
